Though it’s not likely to be news to many midwives, a meta-analysis conducted by Shepherd et al showed a possible reduction of gestational diabetes and cesarean birth among clients who received combined diet and exercise interventions.
Though most midwives do extensive nutritional counseling, fewer engage in physical activity counseling–often citing myths or outdated guidelines. Current guidelines recommend moderate physical activity most or all days of the week–just like for all healthy people.
